ZAMBIAN-born international economist Dambisa Moyo is among 11 other Barrick Gold Corporation (USA) (NYSE:ABX) shareholders who have been elected as directors for the global miner which owns Lumwana Mine in Solwezi. The controversial economist who writes on macroeconomy and global affairs was elected as a director on Wednesday after receiving 592,898,749 votes or 97 per cent of the possible total votes available. This is according to a statement issued by Barrick Gold Corporation (USA) (NYSE:ABX) Vice President, Investor Relations Amy Schwalm obtained by Times of Zambia in Lusaka yesterday. Barrick Gold Corporation (USA) (NYSE:ABX) stock performance was -2.06% in last session and finished the day at $17.11. Traded volume was 13.21million shares in the last session and the average volume of the stock remained 12.46million shares. The beta of the stock remained 0.29.

Alcoa Inc. (NYSE:AA) said on Thursday it signed a long-term agreement to supply aluminum sheet to Spirit AeroSystems Inc. in a contract valued at about $290 million over five years. Alcoa Inc (NYSE:AA) rose 1.26 percent to $13.64 Thursday on volume of 11.36million shares. The intra-day range of the stock was $13.38 to $13.64. Alcoa Inc (NYSE:AA) has a market capitalization of $15.99billion.

Brazil’s Vale SA ADR) (NYSE:VALE), posted a steeper decline in first quarter profit than expected due to weaker iron ore prices and tipped them to fall further. Vale SA (ADR) (NYSE:VALE)’s stock on May 1, 2014 reported a decrease of -0.23% to the closing price of $13.19. Its fifty two weeks range is $12.29 -$17.72. The total market capitalization recorded $67.97billion. The overall volume in the last trading session was 12.31million shares. In its share capital, VALE has 5.24billion outstanding shares.

Alpha Natural Resources and Walter Energy Inc. (NYSE:WLT) cut their production forecast for metallurgical coal, joining rival US coal miners in tightening supply in a bid to drive up prices. On Thursday, shares of Walter Energy, Inc. (NYSE:WLT) dropped -4.03% to close the day at $6.91. Company return on investment (ROI) is -3.70% and its monthly performance is recorded as -9.91%. Walter Energy, Inc. (NYSE:WLT) quarterly revenue growth is -39.44%.
