Developers Are More Interested in Android Tablets

Despite the fact that Apple’s iPad is still number one, Android based tablets are piquing interest of programmers.

According to a conducted survey, 74 percent of respondents were interested in developing applications for tablets that are based on Android. As for the iPad, it managed to attract the interest of 87 percent.

The interest has increased significantly as Android tablets are near iPads in the level of interest. The situation changed after Android tablets were introduced at the Computer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Developers listed minimized fragmentation, price, upcoming Honeycomb software, which are regarded as crucial factors that will help Android tablets to succeed. It is expected that developers will build applications for rich media, newspapers, conferencing as well as entertainment for Android based tablets.

It looks like Oracle’s lawsuit against Google claiming has not affected interest in the Android platform. Still it is believed that Google and Oracle will work it out.

Polled developers released their wish list for the upcoming iPad 2, including a USB connector, new camera capabilities as well as improved retina display.

There was good news for the Windows Phone 7 smartphone platform of Microsoft in the survey. Interest in developing for the new platform of Microsoft increased to 36 percent, while in the previous survey there was 28 percent.

According to the survey, 82 percent of developers want to distribute their applications through Google’s app store. As for 37 percent, they were interested in the Amazon Appstore, 13 percent are ready to distribute apps through Verizon V Cast store as well as 9 percent through the GetJar store.

Also the survey revealed waning enthusiasm for connected TVs. Interest of Developers in Google TV decreased from 44 percent to 33 percent. As for Apple TV, one can notice the drop from 40 percent to 30 percent. The diminished interest is explained by the availability of tablets, which are not connected with TVs.
