Google to Introduce Encrypted Web Search Option

In case you are willing to shield Web search engine of Google from network snoops, you are able to benefit the option that encrypts the session with SSL protection.

With the help of SSL unauthorized parties will not be able to sniff data traveling between a server as well as user’s computer.

As for Google search, SSL will be responsible for protecting the transmission of search queries that were entered by users as well as search results provided by Google servers.
It is expected that the search giant will release the encrypted version of its Web search engine on Friday. Note that it will be available in case you type “https” but not “http” in the URL address bar.

According to Evan Roseman, a software engineer from Google, users will benefit the new option. In fact, it is very handy for security and online privacy. The company is planning to provide encryption support for more search offerings.

The SSL Web search will be available in beta version. One should say that the user experience will be different in several ways compared to regular service. But it will be a bit slower as a security connection needs time for establishment. It should be mentioned that the SSL option will be offered only for Web search as it will not cover special engines of Google like maps search as well as image.

The SSL protection is available also for other services of Google, such as Docs office productivity suite as well as Gmail.
