Google is going to launch Android 3.0 Honeycomb next month. The company is going to hold an event on February 2.
On Friday, the company sent out invitations along with the new logo of the operating system to journalists. An Android-like honeybee is a new logo for the OS. It is expected that we will be able to see the new OS in several tablet devices. It is still unknown when the company is planning to bring the operating system to smartphones.
On Wednesday, Google rolled out its Honeycomb software developers kit. This proves that the Honeycomb software was en route. The SDK includes the following highlights: high-performance 2D as well as 3 D graphics, a UI framework for creating apps for large screen devices, rich multimedia, support for multicore processor architectures as well as enhancement for enterprise.
It is expected that Honeycomb will be available in a new generation of Android based tablets. But how successful the tablets device will be is still a mystery. It is suggested by a recent IDC survey that the distinguishing feature of Android powered tablets will be their price, but not the new Honeycomb operating system.
Mike Cleron showcased Honeycomb on an unnamed tablet at the CES 2011 which was held in January. One can expect to see the new operating system in the following tablets: the LG G-Slate, Motorola Xoom as well as Eee-branded products offered by Asus.
Originally it was thought that Honeycomb would require a powerful processor, but later it was revealed there was no ‘hard’ specification for processor requirements.
The Google event will be streamed live. It means you can see it from youtube.com/android. the event will start at 9:15 AM California time.
