The preview of Apple’s iPhone OS 4.0 which was provided on Tuesday involved not only expected multitasking features but still it was possible to note some surprise capabilities that can be used for IT departments as well as enterprise users.
Now the version 4 is able to codify all attachments as well as e-mails. They can be unlocked by means of a pin code. With the help of the “sandboxing,” one can have a proper protection even if your smartphone is stolen and accessed. The 1500 APIs of Apple are included into the firmware, they are expected to be released this summer. Moreover, they are intended for developers in order they could codify data inside their applications.
Also enterprises will be provided with an opportunity to wirelessly allot an app by means of their own services. But it will be impossible to distribute other apps outside of the App Store of Apple. It is necessary to code-sign apps through enterprise distribution.
According to Jack Gold, principal of J. Gold Associates, due to such an ability, companies will be able to update as well as upload apps from corporate systems that there will be no need to go through iTunes. In fact, it is a good deal.
Moreover, the new OS version will provide support for mobile device management but Apple did not disclose how it is possible. It looks like the new management APIs is a major upgrade.
Also the new version of the OS will back up Exchange Server 2010 which provides SSL VPN support by means of Juniper ad Cisco.
