Oh boy, several months of hype and still we haven’t been able to see a fully functional version of Firefox browser. Don’t know what’s going on at the Mozilla HQ, but whatever it is, it ain’t good. Yesterday, followed by a slew of crash reports, Mozilla guys released the 7th Beta version of the Firefox 4 browser.
The 7th prototype is said to work on the basis of Mozilla’s keystone TraceMonkey engine, which was primarily introduced to increase the browsing speed. So, so you think that there was any noticeable increase in the speed? Nah, Mozilla’s so-called 5X speed boost promise was just like a hollow seashell.
I dare you to head down to Mozilla office and talk to them about Firebox 4 Beta 7’s performance. Word to Dear Lord, those guys will never level with you, always emphasizing that there is 300% acceleration in the new beta thingy. Mozilla will back up its claims through the previous track record of TraceMonkey, anything that takes for them to impress you.
However, we found most of the Firefox performance Hoo-Haw was part of the SunSpider 0.9 battery. So we tested the new beta edition was tested on the following test bed:
• Intel Quad Core 2 Processor – Q6600 @ 2.4 GHz
• Gigabyte Motherboard
• 4 Gigs of RAM
• Nvidia GeForce 9800 GTX (*More Than Enough to Support Mozilla Graphics)
The Firefox beta 7 touted out a 348 Ms. Result, which is by far, a lot less that the 880 Ms., which Firefox 3.6.12 came up with. The new browser only tipped the CPU indicator as high as 17%, with all previous versions of the browser coming up with pretty amazing results.
