According to reports, Microsoft is working on upgrades for its venerable Hotmail that will be available next week. As for Apple, it is improving its MobileMe mail. It looks like the two companies are taking actions against Google’s domination of the cloud.
It is expected that Microsoft will release its upgrade on Monday. According to the speculation of VentureBeat, with the help of the upgrade Hotmail will get more speed and improved mobile access. It will come with tagging and threading of messages and conversations as well as social network integration.
Simon Mackie from WebWorkerDaily said that he would not refuse from using Gmail because of a better Hotmail tempt. Although Hotmail improved a lot for the last years, it is available with nicer interface and offers new functionality, still Gmail is a far better email client. As a matter of fact, it offers faster and better interface as well as more storage.
Actually, quite a lot of readers agree with Mackie. For example, one of the readers said that he dislikes the UI of hotmail. At the same time he is not fascinated by Gmail.
But still one should admit that regular people are considered to be the target market but not readers as well as writers of WebWorkerDaily.
On Wednesday, Apple introduced a new open beta designed for MobileMe Web mail. It comes with a widescreen view, which resembles the email app on the iPad. Moreover, there are server-based rules due to which it is possible to organize your email on different client devices.
But one should say that any company that want to become serious as a cloud vendor, it should have Webmail like Gmail. But it is not enough to have a good Webmail. The thing is that consumers are moving to most important communications, using instant messages as well as texting. Actually, vendors should offer a comprehensive and superior suit of cloud applications.
