Motorola Atrix 4G: Integration Between Smartphone and PC

Due to the roll-out of the Motorola Atrix 4G, the line between personal computers as well as smartphones will become a bit blurrier.

It was announced by AT&T that consumers would be able to buy the Atrix 4G as well as a Motorola Laptop Dock. The price tag of both devices will be $500. In fact, with the Motorola Laptop Dock users can take advantage of the most interesting feature of the handset, i.e. its ability to integrate its screen, capabilities and application for a desktop computer. Also the mobile carrier offers a package for Atrix users that includes a Bluetooth-based wireless keyboard, Motorola HD Multimedia Dock, and mouse. But it will require additional $190.

At the Consumer Electronics Show 2011, Motorola revealed how a laptop can take data from the smartphone and edit as if it had originated on the laptop.

The device offers an ability to have a more PC-like experience by means of the Web top application of Motorola that is based on the 3.6 version of Mozilla Firefox. It is also promised that the device will be very fast, being powered by a dual-core 1GHz processor.

The smartphone comes preloaded with Android 2.2 Froyo, which has been surpassed by the tablet-centric 3.0 Honeycomb and Android 2.3 Gingerbread. With Froyo the handset will lack support of Gingerbread for Near-Field Communications, SIP-based VoIP as well as front-facing camera. Moreover, it will not have application-management and power-monitoring applications.

The Atrix has the label of “4G” device. It will use the HSPA+ network of AT&T. It is considered to be an advanced form of 3G GSM technology. The carrier is going to launch its first 4G LTE network that is scheduled for this summer.
