Think of another cloud based application store and Mozilla is there to quench your thirst. Yes, that’s right; the browser company just announced that it’d be launching an app store in the near future. Last week, Mozilla published its “State of Mozilla” report. It was then, when the tech gurus managed to hear about the upcoming cloudy venture.
One part of those future plans is intertwined with Android based activities, while the other part is still more of a mystery. The company has made the maters more interesting by saying that the application store will be based on an Open Web App Ecosystem motto. Do you know what that means? It means that once fully functional, the said app store will illustrate a platform which will be an independent app store.
According to the State of Mozilla report, “The current app model has traits that threaten some of the characteristics that have made the Web so vibrant a platform, particularly in the mobile space. Apps are often device specific and platform specific. Information we create in an application is stuck in that application and / or that platform. One doesn’t join a unified whole as one can with the Web. App-related information isn’t generally linkable or findable. In addition, developers often need to get permission from one or more gatekeepers to reach people–from a network operator, a device manufacturer, a ‘store’ operator. Similarly, consumers must go through these filters to access new functionality.”
For now, Mozilla is testing the waters through a prototype application store. The company is focusing on possible issues, so that everything could be worked out before a release date. There are videos at YouTube that offer the full explanation to this phenomenal upcoming app store.
