If you are a cost-conscious individual and haven’t been wanting to put out a load of cash on solid state disks, or SSD’s, then the time is now. OCZ has unveiled a new solid state disk that is around $100, or at least for the 32GB disk, as an addition to the Onyx series.
The 32GB appears to be large enough to be able to run most computer applications while running the operating system. SSD’s are much faster than that of traditional hard drives as the SSD’s work similar to that of a flash drive and definitely use less power.
Onyx also has an on-board 64GB cache that provides write and read speeds of up to about 70MB per second and 125MB per second correspondingly, which are significantly higher than any previous drives created by the company as well as its competitors. In addition, in order to ensure that performance is at its highest peak and is preserved through the use of the SSD, TRIM support is featured.
However, if you delve deep enough, you will find this may not be the greatest deal as you can find some SSD’s for the same price ($100) for larger GB. Nevertheless, OCZ has developed one of the cheapest disks available on the market today.
At the current moment, OCZ has only launched the 32GB SSD for the Onyx lineup, but consumers can expect to see more aggressive technology like this popping up before too long from OCZ. These are great for use of boot drives as well as substitutes for external hard drives for home computer and laptops.
