Stock in News: Google Shows Off Nexus 6

Google (NASDAQ GOOG) has unveiled its latest smartphone, the Nexus 6, taking aim at the iPhone 6 Plus with its massive 5.96 inch QHD display. The technology giant also took the opportunity to introduce consumers to its new Nexus 9 tablet, as well as a small set-top box called the Nexus Player, which allows user to stream movies and TV shows to their television using their WiFi signal.

The Google Inc (NASDAQ GOOG) Nexus 6 will run the Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system, as will its tablet cousin the Nexus 9. Innovations include Google’s new Material Design language, default encryption, Samsung’s Knox enterprise software suite, a battery saving mode and better device synchronization.

Another talking point is the Nexus 6’s screen, which at 5.96 inches is bigger than that of the iPhone 6. Users will be able to enjoy a QHD 1440×2560 resolution, which gives a pixel density of 493 pixels-per-inch (ppi). The new smartphone will be manufactured by Motorola Mobility, a firm which Google is in fact about to sell to China’s Lenovo Group.

Google Inc (NASDAQ GOOG) News: Nexus 6

At the presentation of its new smartphone, Google made sure to highlight the strength of its battery life, which the firm obviously considers to be a standout feature. Google claims that the smartphone will be able to last at least 24 hours on a single charge.

They were also keen to point out that Motorola’s Turbo Charge feature means that you can get six hours battery life from only 15 minutes of charge, perfect for those of you who have access to one of London’s Solarbox charging points. The battery life of smartphones has become an important issue as high-powered applications have developed faster than batteries, meaning that you will never see a smartphone user without his or her charging cable.
