Tron dates back to 1984. No, it didn’t get released at that time but if we’re to think of the matter from a bigger perspective, we’ll come to know that it was William Gibson who gave a more convincing edition of a virtual spaceship and cyberspace sort of story. Tron, on the other hand, was released in 1982; the movie rocked the cinemas through its “state of the art” visuals. Whatever the flaws were there, we all loved Tron because it alleviated our passions about cyber world.
Fast forward to today’s world, you’ve got better movies. I have to say that if it weren’t for the graphic technology, these movies wouldn’t have fared that well. For instance, take Matrix as an example. Take the flick back to 1984; do you think that the directors and the producers will be able to deliver the same concept through the old school technology? At its core, the story would’ve been bogged down by crappy screenplay and such sort of stuff.
Anyways, coming back to Tron, let me say that this is one big name that made it to the videogame and film industry. Primarily, it’s the story of a security program known as Anon, who’s responsible for preventing a virus (Abraxas) from destroying the cyber world. You see, Abraxas is one meanie who likes to barricade your way towards a peaceful resolute, by sending his minions, deathly race sequences and glowy disk things.
The latest game in the Tron franchise is Tron: Evolution. There’s a single player campaign with only a limited number of driving sequences. The first time I played this game, I was taken aback. As a hardcore Tron fan, which spent most of his childhood with these games, I felt a bit undercooked. The game barrels down a track, moving left to right and nothing much to hope for. Oh, and don’t even think about the speed rush thing as it never happens. All in all, I’d rather play Donkey Kong old school style, than stick with the likes of Tron.
